Brexit and the international role of the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority

Brexit and the international role of the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority

A webinar presented by the IBA Antitrust Section

19 JAN 2021 1315 - 1400 GMT

Now that the UK is no longer part of the EU, businesses must navigate a standalone UK competition regime for the first time in over forty years. The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) will also find itself in a new position, as it will no longer be part of the European Competition Network and will need to establish itself as a major global antitrust enforcer.

The CMA now has jurisdiction over all mergers and antitrust investigations impacting the UK. It is an independent authority within Europe sitting alongside the European Commission.

In this webinar, we will discuss what businesses need to know as they navigate this new complex regulatory landscape. We will also discuss the CMA’s global role and how it intends to cooperate with other antitrust regulators around the world.
