Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is having a transformative impact on the legal profession. Many lawyers are looking to understand what the impact will be and how to get started with AI. This session is one of two in a practical masterclass which will cover a broad range of subjects related to generative artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs). Topics covered over the two sessions will include:

• The structure and basic and important characteristics of generative AI and LLMs

• Opportunities and challenges in the use of technology for legal work

• Practical approaches to using generative AI and LLMs in daily work – curiosity and knowledge are key to creating added value

• A look into the crystal ball with thoughts on further developments and the future impacts of the legal sector

• Basic understanding of prompting in ‘conversations’ with AI by LLMs

• Introduction to different techniques and strategies to getting the answers you need, including tips, tricks and avoiding potential pitfalls

• Insight into how to find applications in daily legal tasks and work
