Biography

The Economic, Art and Cultural Affairs Department (160 fte) in Amsterdam City Hall is responsible for creating the right climate for economic investments and growth, and a thriving cultural environment. Making room for opportunities for (international) business and smart creativity are crucial for vital economic and cultural development in the metropolitan area of Amsterdam. Jan-Willem Flohil (1972) graduated in Economics at University of Amsterdam. He held various positions at the national government (Finance Department) in The Hague between 1999-2009 and at the Municipality of Rotterdam (2009-2020), most recent as Director of Privatisation of Eneco Energy Company/Deputy CFO. He was appointed managing director of the Economic and Cultural Affairs Department in January 2021.
