Jared Hughes
Biography
Jared A. Hughes is an Assistant Chief in the Media, Entertainment & Communications Section at the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. Since joining the Division in 2004 Mr. Hughes has served as the lead investigator in several complex matters, including U.S. v. Qualcomm (2006 action for violations of § 7A of the Clayton Act); U.S. v Verizon et al. (2012 consent decree regarding a joint venture among Verizon, Comcast, and other cable MSOs); and U.S. v. AT&T (2017 challenge to the AT&T/Time Warner merger). Mr. Hughes also has extensive experience in other merger investigations, including SBC/AT&T, Verizon/MCI, Sirius/XM, Comcast/NBC, Comcast/Time Warner Cable, and T-Mobile/Sprint, many of which involved extensive cooperation with the Federal Communications Commission, state attorneys general, and international enforcers. Mr. Hughes was a law clerk for the Honorable Neal E. Kravitz in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia. Mr. Hughes earned his B.A. in Economics at Williams College and his J.D. at the Georgetown University Law Center.
