Rahayu Mahzam

Biography

Rahayu Mahzam is the Senior Parliamentary Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Law. She had also served at the Ministry of Communications and Information. She has been a Member of Parliament since September 2015. Prior to her appointment as Parliamentary Secretary in 2020, Rahayu was practising family law. Rahayu joined the legal profession in 2003 and focused on civil litigation. In 2013, she joined the Syariah Court as a Deputy Registrar. She left the Syariah Court and went back to practice when she joined politics in 2015. Rahayu is also an Associate Mediator accredited by the Singapore Mediation Centre. When she was in practice, she had volunteered with the Muslim Law Practice Committee and the Law Awareness Committee of the Law Society. In Parliament, Rahayu has championed the interests of the special needs’ community, youth development, as well as efforts to empower women and preserve a strong, multi-racial and multi-religious community. Rahayu was one of the co-chairs leading the efforts of the Conversations on Women’s Development. Rahayu is also involved in the Child and Maternal Health & Well-being Taskforce as well as the Inter-agency Taskforce on Mental Health and Well-being.
