Johann Soufi
Biography
Johann Soufi has been practicing as a lawyer since 2007, specializing in international criminal justice and human rights. He has participated, in various capacities, in the trials of senior political and military leaders before several international criminal courts and tribunals, including the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), the Special Court for Sierra Leone (SCSL), and the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL). He has also conducted numerous investigations into international crimes in Rwanda, East Timor, Ivory Coast, the Central African Republic, Mali, and Ukraine, notably for the United Nations. From 2020 to 2023, he headed the Legal Office of UNRWA in Gaza (Palestine). Since 2024, he is the Head of OHCHR Sri Lanka Accountability Project (OSLap). He is admitted to practice as Defence and Victims' Counsel before the International Criminal Court (ICC) and has provided expert training in advocacy, international law, and investigative techniques to international lawyers and prosecutors. He is also a PhD researcher in international criminal law at Paris II Panthéon-Assas University (France) and Laval University (Canada) and regularly offered expert commentary on international law for various media outlets.
