Biography
Marie-Christine has twenty plus years of legal experience. Throughout her legal career, she has mainly focused on corporate, governance and mining law and has been involved in files in Canada, Europe, West Africa and more recently in the UAE. She started working in private practice in Canada. She was part of the business law group at Ogilvy Renault (currently Norton Rose) between 2001 and 2007. In 2007, she moved in-house as Senior legal counsel for Desjardins General Insurance Group, implementing the compliance program at the national level. In 2010, she went back to private practice to join the energy group of Heenan Blaikie LLP. She gained extensive knowledge in mining law. In 2014, she became Senior legal counsel for the Canadian publicly listed gold miner, Kinross Gold Corporation (KGC) out of its Canary Islands office. In 2016, she was promoted to Vice President and General Counsel, Africa, overseeing the legal activities in Mauritania, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Spain. In 2023, she left Kinross to act as General Counsel and Head of Ethics and Business Integrity for Guinea Alumina Corp, the Guinean subsidiary of Emirates Global Aluminium. She was overseeing the legal activities related to the bauxite mine operations as well as the refinery construction project. She left the company in the fall of 2024. Marie-Christine took a few months off. She always had a great interest in real estate and since the beginning of the year, she started to work on a new project with a Canadian businessman based in the UAE (creation of a future start up operating in the real estate industry). Marie-Christine graduated from the faculty of law of the Université Laval in Quebec City, Canada. She is registered at the Quebec Bar since 2000.
