Biography
Professor of Law (Arbitration, Mediation and ADR). Managing Partner of GNCI Law. Lawyer (Madrid and certified in NY) and Arbitrator, expert in negotiation and complex dispute resolution. Former Attorney for the Kingdom of Spain. His previous positions include Of Counsel for Eversheds Sutherland, negotiator of the Energy Charter Treaty and of the ICSID modernization processes; negotiator of International Maritime Organization and Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) conventions; deputy director of Arbitration at the Government of Spain; independent and professional arbitrator; general counsel of Cepsa (second largest oil and gas company in Spain); director of Iberdrola's Legal Services for the Americas (the world's largest renewable energy company); diplomat and Counselor of Justice in the Council of the EU; Chair of the EU Council special Group on the Assessment of the Legal Aspects of the Financial Crisis; Chair of the EU Civil Law Committee (in charge of all EU Law on international contracts and international litigation) and of the EU Intellectual Property Committee; negotiator of EU energy and financial regulations; secretary and member of the Board of Directors of several corporations; delegate to the Hague Conference on Private International Law and negotiator of other international conventions. Graduated from the Complutense University of Madrid and Columbia Law School (LL.M.) with extraordinary academic honors in both cases. Diploma from Harvard Law School (Negotiation and Mediation). Experience as arbitrator and counsel in complex disputes in the fields of energy, infrastructure, mining, natural resources and raw materials, admiralty, corporate and financial matters, construction, EPC and other international commercial contracts. He has participated in over 40 investment cases and 80 commercial arbitration cases.
