Ignacio Imas Innella
Biography
Ignacio Imas is a distinguished Uruguayan attorney with extensive experience in law and project finance across Latin America and the Caribbean. He graduated from the School of Law at the University of the Republic in Uruguay and holds an LL.M. (Master of Laws) from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, complemented by a Master in Business from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, both in the United States. He began his career at Ferrere Abogados in Uruguay, where he gained expertise in corporate and financial matters. In 2012, he joined the legal team of the Inter-American Investment Corporation (now BID Invest), the private sector arm of the IDB Group, at its Montevideo office. After completing his studies at Northwestern University, Ignacio joined the Infrastructure and Energy team at Clifford Chance in Washington, D.C., in 2015, one of the world's leading law firms. In 2017, he returned to BID Invest to join the legal team specializing in infrastructure, energy, and corporate finance. Currently, Ignacio is based at the BID Invest regional office in Bogotá, Colombia, where he leads and coordinates complex Structured Finance and Capital Markets transactions for strategic projects in the infrastructure and energy sectors. His leadership and expertise have earned him international recognition. In 2023, he was inducted into the prestigious "Dealmaker Hall of Fame" by the International Financial Law Review (IFLR) during its Americas Awards, highlighting his contributions to innovative and high-impact transactions in the region. In 2025, he was recognized by IJ Global as "Rising Star of the Year" during its LatinAmerica Awards. Additionally, he has been featured for several consecutive years in the Legal 500 GC Power List. Ignacio actively participates as a speaker at international forums, sharing his expertise in project finance and infrastructure development. His strategic vision and ability to design innovative solutions have established him as a leader in the region.
