Biography
Young Hoon (YH), an attorney (South Korea, US California) and solicitor (UK), is currently an in-house counsel at Korean Re, where he specializes in (re)insurance, maritime law, and international arbitration. YH is responsible for managing cross-border transactions and litigations, as well as ensuring the company's compliance with both domestic and international regulatory and sanction regimes. His expertise includes evaluating legal implications of emerging issues in the insurance industry, new deal structures introduced in Korea (i.e. indirect CAT bond issuance within the financial authorities' framework) and managing the company's compliance risks under dynamic sanction regimes and data protection laws. He also plays an active role in discussions with insurers, brokers, adjusters, recently achieving a successful settlement in a NY litigation that resulted in significant profits for Korean Re. He has been awarded with the Leading Lawyer Award by the Korean Bar Association in 2023. Having acted as counsel in numerous KCAB, ICC, SIAC, LMAA arbitrations as well as ad hoc arbitrations in Korea, Switzerland, Thailand, Suriname etc. and cooperated with local counsels from various jurisdictions for international disputes and compliance, he aims to expand his ADR practices by becoming an arbitrator. YH is pursuing a Ph.D in Commercial Law at Seoul National University and his professional qualifications include accredited mediator (Korean Society of Mediation), Branch Compliance Officer (Insurance), Certified Privacy Protection General (CPPG), Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist, and Certified Foreign Exchange Specialist.
