Pieter Otto Steyn
Biography
Pieter has been a director of South African law firm Werksmans since 1996 and is a commerical/M&A corporate lawyer whose practice developed over the years to include antitrust/competition, gaming/lotteries, Black Economic Empowerment and African business, trade and investment. He has advised on transactions and antitrust/competition matters in other African countries and regional competition authorities like COMESA. Since 2001, he has chaired LEX Africa, an alliance of African law firms with over 600 lawyers in 30 African countries - see www.lexafrica.com. He is a former Co-Chair of the IBA Antitrust Committee (2016 and 2017) and the IBA African Regional Forum (2019 and 2020) and served on the Advisory Board of the Antitrust Committee and the African Forum. He currently serves on the IBA Constitution and Governance Committee. He has provided pro bono advice including to the Jane Goodall Institute South Africa, Campaigning for Cancer, Amnesty International and Public Interest SA and is a member of the senior advisory board of educational charity Lex:lead.
