Oya Kavame
Biography
Ms. Kavame has over 15 years of experience in high-value, complex domestic and international corporate and M&A work. In January 2015, having built a large practice at her previous firms, Ms. Kavame was able to establish her law firm, Kavame Law Firm. At its height, Ms. Kavame employed 5 lawyers and collaborated with 2 academic advisors and 4 consultant tax and accountant experts. Her role involved devising strategic and tactical solutions for not only her firm but also that of her clients. A large part of her practice was to act as an external in-house counsel and/ or company secretary for medium and large corporates that did not have this function, or niche advice with Turkish law. Her advisory work includes drafting, negotiating, and reviewing contracts, corporate and M&A, real estate, enforcement proceedings, commercial litigation, debt collection, employment law, and immigration, legal due diligence reports, and liaising with relevant government departments and the Turkish Capital Markets Board (financial regulatory body). Ms. Kavame has successfully worked with lawyers in other jurisdictions including England, the US, and Hong Kong (common law), Austria China, Dubai, Italy, Spain (civil law), and Saudi Arabia (Sharia law). She advises clients in a variety of sectors including capital markets, IT, manufacturing, food and beverage, wire and wire machines production, and logistics. She focused on rendering legal services to foreign investors from the USA, Europe, Japan, China, and the Middle East concerning company establishments, M&As, analysis, and interpretation of contracts on a variety of business transactions, commercial law issues, negotiations, and mediations. She led the M&A transactions of numerous local and multinational companies. In 2024, Ms. Kavame completed her Advanced Master of Laws in European and International Business Law together with her master thesis on “The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Corporate Governance: Redefining Directors’ Duties”. In 2006, Ms. Kavame graduated from Istanbul Bilgi University School of Law (ranked 3rd in Turkey by Bloomberg (2018)), with her International Law, and Introduction to Law courses being conducted in English. Following this she got a scholarship at South Texas College of Law in Houston Texas, studying in English, Law Office Management, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Evidence Law. From July 2007 she worked at Legal 500 ranked law firm in Istanbul where she was promoted to lead the International, Corporate, and M&A Law Department managing 4 lawyers. Before setting up her firm, Ms. Kavame was an M&A partner in a Turkish boutique law firm.
