Biography

Giuseppe D’Acquisto is senior technology advisor for the Italian Data Protection Authority (the Garante). He represents the Garante within the Technology Subgroup of Working Party art. 29 and the International Working Group on Data Protection in Telecommunications (the Berlin Group), being rapporteur in various opinions and working documents (e.g. anonymization techniques, cloud computing, collaborative intelligent transport systems). He has been member of the Europol supervisory body, and he was appointed national expert by the following EU institutions: the European Commission in the assessment of the Directive 58/2002/EC (ePrivacy Directive) and Directive 24/2006/EC (Data Retention Directive), the European Union Agency for Network and Information Security (ENISA) in the development of guidelines for Privacy by design in Big Data (2015) and for personal data security measures (2017), the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in the implementation of a policy for the publication of clinical data for medicinal products for human use (2018). He holds a full degree in electronic engineering (cum laude) and a PhD in computer science. He authored scientific articles and books on technical-regulatory topics (net and search neutrality, right to be forgotten, privacy by design).
