Biography

Michael Coates serves as Associate General Counsel at Shell's Headquarters in The Hague, The Netherlands. He joined Shell from Slaughter and May in London, where he worked principally on M&A and corporate finance transactions. Since joining Shell, he has held a number of roles including Secretary to the Group Executive Committee, Special Adviser to the Chief Executive Officer, United Kingdom Head of Legal, and Associate General Counsel of the Downstream business. Michael serves as a director of a number of material Shell group companies and is Chairman of the Board of KPO B.V., a large joint venture operating in the Republic of Kazakhstan. He is a Fellow of the UK Institute of Directors.
