Biography

Dr. Thomas Bauer, Consultant, Kellerhals Carrard (Basel, Switzerland); former Chairman of the Board, Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA). Dr. Bauer is a consultant at Kellerhals Carrard in Basel, Switzerland. Before re-joining private practice earlier this year, he was the Chairman of the Board at the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) from 2016 to 2020, a partner at Ernst & Young and the Head of "Recovery and Resolution" during 1994-2014, and a part-time judge at the Swiss Cantonal Court of Appeals where he chaired the chambers for criminal procedures and civil procedures (including insolvency procedures and dispute settlements) (1992-2016). Since 1998, he has authored (or co-authored) numerous treatises and publications, including most recently the Commentary on Swiss Insolvency Law (3rd ed. 2021), and is currently working on the Commentary on Swiss Banking Law (3rd ed. 2023).
