Biography
Henrique Calvão Martins is a consultant at MDR Advogados. He began his professional activity in Portugal, where he has been registered since 2006 in the Portuguese Bar Association. Subsequently, in 2010, he began, at the same time, consulting in Mozambique (mainly in foreign investment in Mozambique). In 2016, he was appointed to the post of Non-Executive Director of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in Mozambique. In 2017, he started the necessary "adaptation period", as a lawyer, at the Mozambican Bar Association, where he has been registered, as such, since 2018.
Henrique is experienced in the areas of litigation, public law, tax law, civil law as well as insurance law. He advises national and multinational companies in diverse operations, such as on the set-up of investment structures, financing and restructuring transactions, international doubletaxation and he has been involved on the drafting and review of tax legislation. He has been very actively involved on dispute resolution, representing national and international clients before fiscal and public authorities, including Tax Court, Customs Court, Administrative Court and Judicial Court, in different areas of tax law, public law, customs legislation and civil law.
He participated, as a guest speaker, in conferences related to foreign investment in Mozambique, with particular focus on the legal planning and tax.
