Johanna Christine Wirth
Biography
Johanna C. Wirth (*1982) is a partner in Hengeler Mueller’s international dispute resolution group. Johanna joined the firm in 2008. She primarily acts as counsel and arbitrator in domestic and international arbitration and state court proceedings with particular focus on energy, technology, banking & finance and post-M&A disputes. Her major clients include companies in the energy and telecommunication sector, as well as German and international financial institutions. In addition to her dispute-related work, Johanna regularly advises her clients on a variety of international law issues, in particular related to cross-border investigations. Johanna’s most recent litigation practice includes defending major companies in mass claims proceedings (inter alia Volkswagen AG), as well as representing companies in complex energy related disputes (inter alia Deutsche Bahn AG). She has been acting in numerous complex arbitrations as party counsel and is increasingly sought-after as arbitrator. Highlights of her arbitration work include advising Deutsche Telekom AG in the US-$ multi-billion arbitral proceedings initiated by the Federal Republic of Germany in the matter of Toll Collect GmbH. Johanna’s expertise has been recognised in various international and German rankings. She is listed in Best Lawyers Germany as Recommended Lawyer for Litigation. She regularly speaks and writes on international dispute resolution issues. Johanna is a member of the International Bar Association (IBA), the German Institution of Arbitration (DIS), the German-American Lawyers‘ Association (DAJV), the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC). She was elected as member of the LCIA Court in 2020 and has been a member of SIAC’s Users’ Council since 2017.
