Biography

Eddy De Smijter is Head of the International Relations Unit, DG Competition, European Commission. Before joining the European Commission in 2001, he was teaching European Law at the Universities of Leuven and Tilburg. He was a member of the Commission negotiation team on Regulation 1/2003 and was leading the Commission negotiation team on the Antitrust Damages Directive. In Spring 2015, Eddy became Head of the Unit that is responsible for the relations with national competition authorities and with national courts. In Autumn 2016, he became Head of DG COMP's International Relations Unit.
